Junior Rugby

Junior Section

Longton Rugby has a thriving Junior section for 7 to 17 year olds.

Coaching for our Junior Section takes place at Longton Rugby's superb new ground at Trentham Fields on Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. until 8.30 p.m., and on Sunday mornings from 10.15 a.m. until 12.00 noon.

Our 7 to 12 year olds play a mixture of Tag Rugby, which is non-contact, and also some full-contact Rugby.  Both of these activities are designed to be fun, whilst learning the basics of the game- and building confidence, self-esteem and team-work.

Tag rugby sessions for boys and girls aged from 7 to 12 are held each Sunday morning from 10.15 a.m. until 11.30 a.m. on the Artificial Turf Pitch. In addition, a spin off group of 10, 11 and 12 year old boys and girls are also involved in contact rugby. This group follows on from the Sunday morning tag session, from 11.30 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. and also meets on Wednesday evenings from 07.30 p.m. until 08.30 p.m.

Doug Finney, Junior Section Secretary, comments "With our 2 dedicated junior sized pitches and improved coaching setup, we are now forging ahead with a strong commitment to providing facilities for junior rugby at the Club. This includes boys and girls tag rugby as well as the 15 a-side game."

Longton Rugby is committed to achieving the RFU's Mini and Youth Seal of Approval accreditation, and junior coaching is undertaken by suitably qualified, CRB checked personnel.

Longton Rugby is proud to be a Club that believes in fairness and equality, where all our Junior players are given opportunities to train and play matches.

Doug explains that "The Club takes its responsibilities towards young people very seriously and has a number of important policies and procedures in place, dealing with areas such as Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, and Anti-Bullying."

Copies of these policies can be found in the Rules and Policies section of our Website.

Longton Rugby are always happy to include parents in the Club's activities, and Doug confirms that "We positively encourage and welcome the involvement of parents and guardians, at all levels."

If your child is interested in playing for Longton Rugby, just turn up on a Wednesday or a Sunday, and speak to one of the coaches or officials.
