Seconds 29 v 0 Wolverhampton 2nds

A totally dominant Longton 2nd XV scored 5 tries against Wolverhampton 2nds to move up to second place in the Staffordshire Second Team Merit League.

A near full strength 2nd team bolstered with a couple of 3rds and Vets due to late first team call ups kicked off late at Trentham Fields on a cold and blustery afternoon.

The backrow of Walker, Kelly and Bebbington, supported by second row Longshaw gained the upper hand straight away, bossing the rucks and mauls and stealing opposition ball at will.

The first try was scored by winger Naz Nawera.  Catching a kick ahead, his mazy run beat numerous tackles to score under the posts.

Centre Christian Wainright was next on the score sheet, followed by second row Rich Hewitt, being in the right place to score out wide after the ball had travelled the width of the pitch twice.

Right winger Pete Clifton scored the next try, darting between hapless tackles to score.

From the resulting kick-off the forwards took the ball the length of the pitch with clever interpassing for Wayne Longshaw to score under the posts.

Two conversions by Vet Graeme Wilson meant the half time score was 29-0.

The second half promised so much, but with captain Rich Kelly deciding not to return to the pitch following his sin binning, further injuries, substitutions and the ref blowing up 17mins early so he could catch a train, the game ended 29-0!

Another game that should have been won by 50 points, but overall a good performance from all the players who took part.
