Thirds 20 v 34 Cannock 1st XV

This was a short notice game between Cannock 1st XV squad and a Longton squad containing a combination of 2nd and 3rd XV players from last season.

This was a hard fought game, with the Longton backs having the edge during the first three 20 min quarters, two excellent tries from winger Steve Cartledge and one from Dave Barber, 1 con and 1 pen from Kyle Protheroe, setting up the final 20 mins, but with a few injuries and Tom Nixon being advised by the ref to leave the field before he was sent off, the final 20 min deteriorated as the Longton pack ran out of steam, mainly due to many of them only attending a few pre-season training sessions. They were all reminded after the game to get to at least the Tuesday session each week to improve fitness. 

Special mention to the two youngest players, Tom Machin & Andy Quimby, both tackled well and were quick on the break from the back, should do well if they keep performing like that for the rest of the season.
