Thirds 12 v 18 Market Drayton

The Longton 3rds were expecting a merit game vs local rivals Newcastle 3rds, but due to a late cry off managed to get a pool game against Shropshire junior side Market Drayton.  

The visitors turned up with a mixture of 1st XV and 2nd XV players expecting to score 30+ points against Longton, but were surprised to be 5-3 down after 10mins, the first Longton try being an excellent break from the returning fly half Gaz Bartlett ghosting though a number tackles to score under the posts, unfortunately he missed the conversion.

The rest of the game was mainly played in the Longton half, with Gaz clearing the ball with booming kicks, Market Drayton worked the ball back up the pitch to score 3 unanswered try's, one area Longton were dominant was the lineout, with Rich (FR) Hewitt taking clean ball in the middle of the line. The last try came from good lineout ball, with a catch and drive forcing the ball to the Drayton line, No.8 Ben Walker crashing over for the final score, Gaz converting.

There are a number of positions that need to be confirmed but this was a good work out and again bodes well for the future, next 3rds game is in 2 weeks away vs Lichfield Vets.
