Cannock 2nds 10 v 5 Longton Thirds

A disappointing result from a dominant performance for the Longton 3rds away at the boggy grounds of Cannock 2nds.

Longton kicked off and never left the Cannock half for the first 40 mins, dominating the lineouts, Longshaw took the ball with ease to set up rolling maul after rolling maul, with Mongy and Bullit controlling at the back. Longton should have scored 4 tries in the first half, spurning penalty kicks 10m out in front of the posts to take more lineouts, Ben Evans was adjudged to been held up when storming over, and further opportunities were missed due to needless penalties.

The Longton try came from a lineout, again front jumper Longshaw took clean ball, a 10m drive was finished off by the ageless Mongy, just before half time, conversion missed 5-0.

Cannock were a different side in the second half, beating Longton to the breakdown and stealing the ball to give them more possession, resulting in an early penalty in front of the posts, 5-3. After 60mins Cannock pressurised the scrum, stole the ball from the scrum half to score under the posts, 10-5 to Cannock.

Longton piled on the pressure but could not score, countless scrums on the Cannock 5m line, Brasso was held up in the corner before he could place it down, skipper Matt Glaze was tripped as he broke the Cannock line 10m's out, and Christian Wainright managed to run into the ref instead off the gap, it is hard to miss Fester in all that pink !

A game Longton should have won convincingly, ended in defeat, the 1 point puts them top, but another difficult game next week home to Lichfield Vets should decide the Merit Table B North winners for 2009/10.
