Vets

When playing numbers allow, and we have enough old codgers over the age of 35 available, Longton Rugby fields a Vets side to take on other grey haired teams from the local clubs. When we get really ambitious the Vets play 4th team friendly fixtures against teams of young whippersnappers, obtained through the Staffordshire Fixtures Pool.

Alan Christian, Vets Captain says "It would be great to be able to field a Vets team on a regular basis. Perhaps once a month throughout the season - although we might give February a miss as it's not too kind on the rheumatic joints and old bones of our decrepit players."

The Vets side is looking for a sponsor for the coming year - Hair Dyes R Us and Viagra Inc are being approached, but if you know of any companies that might be gracious enough to buy them some kit - padded and in extra large sizes - then Longton Rugby would love to hear from you!

Alan confirms "If you are still mobile and can move around unassisted by a Zimmer frame for at least a few minutes at a time, then Longton Vets might be the team for you!! We don't train and we play purely for the fun and the beer. And of course the free physiotherapy on offer at the Club!"
