OLD LONGTONIANS RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB

The merger with Caverswall C.C. is, obviously, foremost in members minds, and as you may know the proposed merger failed to get past a Caverswall General Meeting on 19th June, 1973.
So we have suffered a setback in our efforts to improve the clubs facilities, and in order to improve ourselves now, we need the full support and effort of everyone in the club.

Various fund raising and social activities are already being planned, and if we are to progress in our efforts to obtain a permanent base for the club, the full co?operation of all members is required. Our Social Secretary, Cliff Hurst, and Ladies Committee, will be grateful for any help you can offer in their arrangements of social functions, but, most of all, your support and attendance is needed.

In the short term, the club committee has arranged that we can congregate at (left blank on original) after matches, and after training. This is purely a short term arrangement, and it is hoped that we will be able to put the club in it position to purchase our own facilities in the future

Our club captain, Terry Keeling informs me that training is on Tuesday evenings at 7.30 p.m., as usual (starting again on 10th July, 1973), and he hopes that everyone will make an effort to come along as the start of the season is only a couple of months away. Secondary to this, is the fact that if we do not make full use of the facilities provided for us at Longton High School, we wi11 lose them.

On the 5th June, 1973, a poorly attended A.G.M. was hold, and for your information the following officers were elected:

President W. T. Jolly
Deputy President D. J. Bourne
Chairman A. Smith
Secretary N. Wheat
Treasurer J. Till
Captain 1st XV T. Keeling
Vice Captain 1st XV R. Boardman
Captain 2nd XV A. J. Boulton
Vice Captain 2nd XV B. Hicklin
Captain 3rd XV C. Hirst
Vice Captain 3rd XV R. Cooke
Fixture Secretary C. Boardman
Promoter A. Locket
Social Secretary C. Hirst
Publicity Secretary R. Perry
Committee Member M. Sigley
Committee Members R. Hamer

The conclusion to be drawn from the happenings of the past few is that we are going to have a struggle.in the near future, but if we all work hard as a club, we can continue the improvement of our teams, and increase the status of our club.
