Longton Ladies – the Badgers – have a proud tradition of squad members being selected to play for representative squads from Staffordshire, West Midlands with one original team member now playing in the Premiership and has been capped for England. In 2010 we also had a Welsh under 20’s player, who is now studying in Manchester to become a Doctor!
We have a committed squad of players here, and we are always keen to encourage new players who would like to give rugby a try – no matter their experience. How about playing a bit of rugby in your spare time?
Don’t worry if you’ve never played before, why not get yourself outside in the fresh air, meet some new people, become a bit fitter and of course get muddy in a fun, friendly atmosphere. There is a great social side and we actively encourage team bonding!
Lesley Thompson (Captain) is ably supported by Kelly Rigby (Vice Captain) and they agree that “We’d encourage anyone to come and give rugby a go. We have a range of abilities and ages throughout the team, and we all started out by just mucking in! Whether you are 18 or 50 there will be something in it for you – no matter what your current experience is.”
Fixtures are played mainly on a Sunday afternoon, either at Home at Trentham Fields or away at the other team’s ground, so feel free to come and watch and support. Full details are available on our fixture list.
Alternatively why not come along to training on Thursday evenings from 7.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m. at Longton Rugby’s ground at Trentham Fields.
