John Youngman

It is with much sadness that we report the death of John Youngman. John passed away at home on Thursday 23rd November 2006 after a long illness.

John joined Old Longtonians over 30 years ago and played for many seasons, for a time captaining the 3 rd team. However, it was John’s brilliance as an after-dinner speaker that made him a legend at the club. For many years, John either spoke at the end of season dinner or more normally acted as MC regularly out shining the main speaker. Although already seriously ill, John insisted on driving over from Shropshire to honour a promise to appear at the dinner in May 2005. As normal, he was superb and gained a new group of young fans with his infectious humour and quick wit.

John was a larger than life character in all senses and he will be sadly missed at the club.

Our sincere condolences go to his wife Lynn and all his family.

John’s funeral was held at Telford Crematorium at 11am on Friday 1st December 2006.
