Role Description

Club Safeguarding Officer

Primary Function

  • Provide leadership in the safeguarding of children within the club, maintaining relationships with the Constituent Body Safeguarding Manager and local safeguarding partners

Secondary Function

  • Report to the club executive committee and work with the Mini/Youth Secretary, Registrar and Club Coaching Coordinator


  • Develop the club safeguarding policy and procedures in conjunction with the RFU policy
  • Review emergency procedures, first aid procedures (including first aid kit)
  • Make sure everyone understands the RFU Codes of Conduct and values of the game i.e. Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Enjoyment, Discipline, Respect
  • Be visible and approachable to all club members and post contact details on club notice boards, website and RFU Rugby First
  • Develop a system to ensure all individuals working with young people undertake a DBS application every three years
  • Coordinate a programme of training for club personnel working with young people
  • Ensure that all safeguarding issues and incidents are reported promptly
  • Keep up to date contact details for the local statutory agencies (police, social services etc.) and liaise with them when necessary
